"I am delighted that the city tunnel will soon be ready for cyclists. It is a milestone for the promotion of cycling and a safe connection between districts 4 and 5," says City Councillor Simone Brander, Head of the Civil Engineering and Waste Disposal Department.
The city tunnel is the result of a petition by Pro Velo Zürich in 2011. It will not only provide a fast and safe bike connection through the city, but also free bike parking and direct access to the main train station.
In recent years, the tunnel construction could be viewed during guided tours at Cycle Week - the tunnel will now open in 2025. We want to celebrate the opening on Thursday, May 22 with a bike festival - together with the City of Zurich, Pro Velo and the Zurich cycling community.
